Abstract

The scope of Naval SmartGrid project is to obtain useful data to define the new operative requirements for the acquisition of Italian navy new ships equipped with diesel-electric propulsion. In addition, the project aims to help Italian navy in understanding the problems connected with innovative and integrated electric systems design and operation, as well as to provide the possible solutions to these problems. The project deals with alternate current plants, hybrids alternate/direct current plants to be applied in new buildings. The analysis of data collected on navy ships will be the base of the project as well as the newest designs. The current technologies will be improved by developing new guidelines that will be applied in the future navy ships.
